These pieces were part of my Artist Designer: Maker Year 2 work

Hot Water Bottle: This piece is part of a pair of objects which represent the contrast between comfort and morbidity, inspired by the original purpose of the tent opposed to its modern day function. This piece will provide the comforting warmth of the hotwater bottle as well as the jarring chill of the ceramic skull, it also serves as a visual reminder of mortality due to the skull and more subtle death records print. Thus creating an un-comforting comfort object.

Lamp: This piece is part of a pair of objects which represent the contrast between comfort and morbidity, inspired by the original purpose of the tent opposed to its modern day function. This piece gives off the warm comforting glow of a lamp in a dark room, but also illuminates human mortality as the light shines through the printed death records and reflects from the shine of the skulls. This piece is designed to imitate the average, unassuming, purpose led home lamp with a morbid twist.

Processes: Print was created using a wooden print block I laser cut from real Victorian census records. Skulls were slip cast using a 6 part mold I created, I then manipulated the casts and hand modelled in the teeth details.
